In psychology, a personal value system is a collection of ideas or ideals that motivate and/or influence your actions and decisions.
Your personal value system provides structure and meaning to your life by assisting you in determining what is significant and essential to you personally.
It assists you in expressing who you are and what you believe in.
If you are not aware of, or have grown detached from, your values, you may find yourself making decisions based on impulse or immediate pleasure rather than on sound thinking and appropriate decision-making practices.
Your character is defined by your values. They have an effect on every area of your life, including the following:
- Personal and professional habits
- How do you connect with members of your family, friends, and coworkers?
- Your decision-making processes, the path you choose in life, the general quality of your life, your happiness, and your well-being are all important factors in your life.
- Because of this, it's critical to understand what you value, why you value it, and what priority it has in your life.
A Personal Value System may be divided into four categories.
Personal Values - Personal values are those characteristics that we believe are worthy of our aspirations and that determine our character.
Spiritual Values - These are the values that link us to a higher power and provide us with a feeling of purpose that extends beyond our physical existence.
Love and care for those close to us - our children, parents, other family members, and friends; these are the values we instill in our children.
In our professional lives - we strive to make the most effective use and expression of our abilities and skills for the goals of contributing to society and receiving monetary remuneration.
Which values, as social creatures, do we consider to be desirable?
What matters is that no matter what tradition we were raised in, there are qualities that we like in others that transcend social, economic, and religious barriers. Among these features are the following:
Integrity
Integrity is defined as dependability, honesty, and moral uprightness of character. People with integrity are valuable to us because we know what to anticipate from them. We have confidence in their ability to behave ethically and to do what they believe is right in their hearts. Having trustworthy individuals as friends, members of teams and employees is something we want in all of our endeavors.
Esteem
Respect is the recognition of the inherent value and dignity of all individuals. Those who respect others provide them with fairness and politeness in their dealings with them. They treat others in the same manner in which they would want to be treated.
Love, loyalty
Loyalty is defined as a commitment and loyalty to a person or an organization. Those that are loyal to their family, friends, organizations, and nation will stick by them and support them in both good and terrible times, regardless of their circumstances. They can be relied upon to be there when the going gets tough and to provide a hand when the going gets tough.
Accountability
Accepting responsibility demonstrates that one is trustworthy, dependable, and ready to accept responsibility for one's own actions and character. These individuals feel that they have a moral responsibility to assist others and to contribute to the society in which they live.
No matter what principles we choose to live by, it is critical that we take a step back and consider the larger picture, as well as consider what we want our role to be and how we want to conduct our life.
